What’s New in the 2020 GMC Acadia?

Looking back, it's hard to believe that the GMC Acadia has been on Canadian roads for over ten years! The first generation of this unique crossover vehicle was introduced to Canadian drivers in 2007, with GMC innovations such as the front-wheel-drive for a passenger vehicle and unibody construction making for a sturdier but lighter vehicle.

Now, we’re introducing the 2020 GMC Acadia, and there’s plenty to get excited about with this new model. If you’re looking for a vehicle you’ll want to put this one on your shortlist. Here’s what you can look forward to.

Exterior Redesign

A total redesign is the first big change GMC fans will notice when they take a look at the 2020 GMC Acadia. The exterior has gotten a facelift, so it stands apart from previous models. For people who wanted an Acadia that looked a little tougher, bolder, and more like part of the GMC lineup, the 2020 GMC Acadia grants your wish.

A new squared-off headlight design complements new LED headlamps and tail lights. Not only that, but this crossover has had a big grille hood redesign. Overall it makes for a more standout look that keeps the Acadia squarely in line with the rest of the GMC family.

A New Interior

The inside of the 2020 GMC Acadia has also gotten a bit of a remake. More premium soft-touch materials have been laid out in the cabin, even alongside the centre console. People who choose the Acadia Denali model get special touches with open-pore wood accents placed strategically throughout the interior. The console itself also has had a redesign, with enlarged storage trays, side-by-side cup holders and an extra storage space that’s large enough to swallow a tablet or small bag.

For seating, the 2020 GMC Acadia now comes in 6- and 7-passenger configurations. The curbside second-row seat slides down for easier access to the third row. And the third row has 50/50 split seats that can fold down for a flat load floor if there’s a need for extra cargo space.

New Technology

The 2020 GMC Acadia comes packed with new technology to make driving both more convenient and safe. An 8” touchscreen with an improved user interface sits at the front of the vehicle, and in this device-dependent world, there are 5 USB ports available in this vehicle, as well as a wireless charging option.

If you need it, there is an available option to turn this SUV into a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot for up to seven devices, in addition to Bluetooth connective Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

For safety, there is standard lane-change alert, cross-traffic alert, and rear-park assist in every 2020 GMC Acadia, but we can offer more for people who want additional features. Our Driver Alert Package II option adds automatic emergency braking, forward-collision alert, lane-keep assist, and other proactive features for an even safer driving experience.

More Powertrain Options

While the original Acadia had some great appeal as a crossover vehicle, some drivers preferred a bit more versatility in the powertrain, such as a nine-speed automatic transmission. Now, the 2020 GMC Acadia delivers, with a powertrain option that meets this need and results in even more fuel efficiency.

The SLT and Denali trims of the Acadia come with turbocharged 2.0 L, 4-cylinder, 230 hp engines. However, drivers can choose to step up or down based on need, with a 2.5 L, 4 cylinders, 193 hp engine, or a V6 engine with 310 hp. There’s something here for everyone.

The First Acadia AT4

Finally, as an Acadia first, this vehicle can go off-roading. Even though this line of vehicles is a crossover, the 2020 GMC Acadia AT4 can take you wherever you want to go.

Not only does the Acadia AT4 mark the first time this line has All-Terrain functionality, but the Acadia AT4 also has a bold, distinctive look that sets it apart from other Acadia models. Standard AWD and a V6 engine mean that the AT4 is ready to leave the road and take you to parts less travelled in the Canadian wilderness.

If you’re interested in buying a new, versatile vehicle that gives comfort, safety, and reliability while still providing some of that GMC toughness, the new 2020 GMC Acadia may be just what you need. Ask for more information from our dealers.
