Chevrolet dealers now offer two very different ways to get around Ontario without switching brands: the all-electric 2027 Bolt hatchback and the gasoline-powered 2026 Trax SUV. Both wear the same badge, but they solve different daily problems.

The Bolt’s single front electric motor makes 210 hp and 169 lb-ft of torque, delivered instantly through a one-speed direct drive with no shifting. Regenerative braking is available on demand, letting one-pedal-style driving handle most slowdowns in stop-and-go traffic.
The Trax runs a turbocharged 1.2L three-cylinder making 137 hp and 162 lb-ft, paired with a 6-speed automatic. It is the more familiar setup: an engine that revs, a transmission that shifts, and a fuel gauge that behaves the way most drivers already expect.
For a driver who wants quiet, instant response around town, the Bolt’s electric powertrain is the more comfortable fit. For a driver who wants the routine of a traditional gas engine with no new habits to learn, the Trax’s turbo three keeps things familiar.
More than 80% of Canadian EV drivers charge at home, and the Bolt’s 410 km GM-estimated range covers the average daily drive many times over. Its native NACS port supports DC fast charging up to 150 kW, taking the battery from 10% to 80% in 26 minutes, and the 11.5 kW onboard charger handles overnight top-ups at home.
The Trax skips plug logistics entirely. Fill-ups take minutes at any gas station, with no charger installation, no route planning around fast-charging stations, and no change to cold-weather routines.
Households with a driveway or garage for home charging, and trips that rarely stretch past a few hundred kilometres, tend to find the Bolt’s charging routine becomes second nature. Households that would rather never think about a plug, especially on longer or unplanned trips, will find the Trax’s fill-up routine requires no new thinking at all.
The Trax’s SUV body rides higher, with 185 mm of ground clearance versus the Bolt’s 141 mm, useful on curbs, uneven lots, or a snow-covered driveway. Its taller stance also means more room directly behind the rear seats: 725 L against the Bolt’s 458 L, enough for a week of groceries or a stroller without folding anything down.
The Bolt’s hatchback layout flips that story once the rear seats fold flat, opening to 1,594 L versus the Trax’s 1,532 L. For the occasional big-box run, the Bolt actually holds slightly more once the back seat is out of the way.
Neither model is built around maximum cargo volume. The difference comes down to whether more room is needed before or after folding the seats down.
The Bolt’s 11.3-inch touchscreen with Google built-in and 11-inch driver information cluster are standard on both the LT and RS trims, along with 5G connectivity, Wi-Fi hotspot capability, and available wireless phone charging. Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Alert, and Automatic Emergency Braking come standard across the Bolt lineup from the base LT up.
The Trax’s screen setup grows with the trim: an 8-inch touchscreen and 3.5-inch driver display on 1RS, stepping up to an 11-inch HD touchscreen and 8-inch driver display on LT and above. Chevrolet Safety Assist, including Forward Collision Alert, Automatic Emergency Braking, Front Pedestrian Braking, Lane Keep Assist, and IntelliBeam automatic high beams, is standard across every Trax trim, though Adaptive Cruise Control is standard starting at LT rather than on the entry 1RS.

Where they differ is how early the extras arrive. On the Bolt, the larger screen and Adaptive Cruise Control are standard from the entry trim. On the Trax, reaching the 11-inch screen and Adaptive Cruise Control means stepping up to LT or higher.
The Bolt keeps things simple with two trims. LT is the value-focused start, with silver-painted wheels, a Comfort Package, and cloth seating built around getting into an EV. RS adds sportier cues: gloss-black wheels, an RS badge, a black grille, and standard ventilated front seats, aimed at buyers who want extra visual edge without changing the drivetrain underneath.
The Trax spreads its personality across four trims. 1RS leans sporty and affordable with 18-inch wheels and RS badging, but a smaller 8-inch screen and manual seats. LT trades some of that styling for the larger touchscreen, remote start, and automatic climate control. 2RS pairs LT’s tech with 19-inch wheels and a power driver seat, while ACTIV swaps sport styling for adventure-themed black trim and its own badge.
If daily driving means a short commute, home charging access, and quiet, instant acceleration in city traffic, the Bolt’s electric powertrain and standard tech suite make it the natural fit. Its 410 km range and 26-minute fast-charge window cover nearly all everyday driving without a second thought about fuel stops.
If daily driving means loading groceries without folding seats, higher ground clearance for curbs and uneven parking lots, and refuelling without planning around a charger, the Trax’s SUV packaging and traditional gas engine make it the better-suited choice. Its four-trim range also gives budget-conscious shoppers and those chasing sportier styling more entry points to choose from.
Neither vehicle is the compromise pick. They are built around different daily routines under the same badge.
